For too many years I have
watched this city struggle through growing pains
with ineffectual leadership. They have tried to
put a new coat of paint on a structure that needs
work. They have tried to hide the problems rather
than fix them. They have denied that problems even
exist. And all the time they have continued to
spend money on projects we don't need, but look
nice, while ignoring what we do need. And the only
thing we could really count on was increased
property taxes.
I hate taxes, and to a major
degree I don't even think they are legal. But they
are a necessary evil, that we must bear, if we are
going to have city services such as schools, fire,
trash pickup, and police. Taxes are currently
unbearable, and will get worse if we don't put
people in charge who don't waste money on ego
projects, and aren't afraid to face the projects
they swept under the rug.
You only need to walk down Elm
Street, paying attention, and every major
development project on that street is a failed
project of the leaders of this city. With every
major Urban Renewal or Development project they
got involved in, they promised the entire economy
of the city would turn around, and that the major
benefit to the citizens would be lower taxes. If
you are not familiar with some of their failed
attempts, know that the city backed the tearing
down of one of the last Nickleodeon or Jukebox
front theaters in the country, to create the
vacant lot on the corner of Bridge and Elm, which
was supposed to be more valuable empty. And
then there is Hampshire Plaza, with the PSNH
tower, which still is almost empty of occupancy.
And the Center of New Hampshire Holiday Inn, that
once included a retail shopping mall. The mall
failed, and the hotel was not able to make enough
money so that for fifteen years they couldn't even
pay property taxes.
While a recent engineering study
on our school system outlined the need to spend
$146.6 Million dollars to bring our schools up to
standard, the Board of Mayor and Alderman were
willing to give away $25 million dollars of your
money. It wasn't like they didn't know about the
study, the enthusiasm for just one more major city
backed development plan was too much to pass up.
During my career in business I
have worked for such prestigious firms as Dow
Jones Publications, serving as their Distribution
Manager for Northern California, Nevada and Utah.
As a General Contractor, I built 72 condos in
Maine, and installed miles of roads and public
water supplies. I served for many years of as the
First Sergeant of a Military Police and Airbase
Security Unit. I own and operate an Airport
Transportation and Security Business, which caters
to high profile executives and celebrities. I
bring the benefit of my experiences to the job
that needs to be done.
I am not here to run down our
city. I have stayed because I believe that
Manchester has more potential than any other city
in the Region, we just need sensible leadership to
get it there. The answers to our problems are not
to cut services, but to eliminate waste.
It will be a real challenge
to stop city officials and
bureaucrats from wasting our money, while not
providing what the people of the city really need. With
your help, patience, and understanding, I will
expose the faults, and together we will fix them.
We will eliminate waste, and inefficiency in
public service. We will find new creative revenues
to bolster the city coffers, and we will take care
of all the People on the way. I will watch our
money like a Hawk, and insure it is not wasted..
